Check the owner-code format, equipment category, serial digits, and ISO 6346 arithmetic of a complete entered container identifier.
Format and arithmetic only. No owner registry, physical container, tracking, or condition check is performed. A passing checksum does not prove correct identification.
A complete identifier has three owner letters, an equipment category U/J/Z, six serial digits, and one check digit. Letters use the ISO value sequence beginning A=10 and skipping multiples of 11. Spaces and hyphens are removed and lowercase letters are uppercased before checking. The entered check digit is compared without repairing or assigning an identifier.
Validate the full equipment identifier when reconciling a booking, gate event, or transport document. A mistyped owner prefix or serial digit can break the link between records even when the equipment description looks correct.
A valid ISO 6346 check digit does not confirm that the container exists, is owned by the named party, or is available for your shipment. Check the actual equipment marking and the authorized booking records before correcting operational data.
A passing format/checksum does not prove BIC owner registration, container existence, correct physical identity, availability, location, or condition. This is not a tracking service or a registry lookup. Some transcription errors can preserve a check digit.
BIC container identification and check-digit referenceNo. It verifies only the entered structure and checksum arithmetic. Verify owner registration and the actual unit separately.
Yes. ASCII spaces and hyphens are accepted as separators. Other punctuation and incomplete identifiers are rejected.
