One SKU and one location. Receipts are available before demand on each entered date. Negative baseline balances carry backlog. Suggested receipts restore the safety target and remain hypothetical, including when lead time makes their release late. No orders are submitted.

BEHIND THE NUMBER

How the calculation works

Enter one SKU at one location, one row per distinct date, with demand aggregated for that period and confirmed incoming receipts. Rows sort by date. Receipts are available before demand on that date. Negative stock carries backlog. A second scenario adds only enough suggested supply to restore the safety target, subject to the minimum and order multiple. Release dates subtract calendar days; a release before the as-of date is flagged rather than silently treated as feasible.

Baseline = prior baseline + scheduled receipts - demand; net requirement = max(safety target - balance before new supply, 0); suggested receipt = round max(net requirement, MOQ) up to order multiple; release = receipt date - lead days

When this calculation helps

A dated projection reveals shortages that an average stock-coverage ratio can hide. Follow demand and confirmed receipts through one SKU/location pool, including opening backlog where applicable.

Check the interpretation

Suggested receipts are hypothetical supply, not confirmed purchase orders. Minimums and multiples can raise the quantity above the immediate requirement, and a suggested release before the as-of date is flagged as late. Review supplier capacity and business calendars separately.

A single-item, unconstrained planning aid, not full MRP, BOM explosion, DRP, ATP, or an order-placement system. Same-period timing is aggregated; no intra-period availability guarantee, capacity constraint, business-day calendar, expiry, or forecast consumption logic is applied. Do not count the same demand as both orders and forecast. Suggested receipts are hypothetical even when their releases are late.

Good to know

Does this create purchase orders?

No. It produces a reviewable scenario and CSV. No supplier or ERP is contacted.

Can I mix SKUs or locations?

No. Run each SKU/location separately with consistent units. The CSV represents one stock pool.
