Ratings and weights are your inputs. Zero-weight criteria do not affect the total; no supplier grade or approval is assigned.

BEHIND THE NUMBER

How the calculation works

All four ratings use the same 0-to-100 scale with higher values better, including cost competitiveness. Relative weights are normalized to sum to one; they need not total 100. A zero-weight criterion contributes nothing. The result is an entered weighted score, not an independently verified supplier grade.

Weighted score = sum(rating x weight) / sum(weights)

When this calculation helps

Weights express the priorities selected for the assessment. Use comparable score scales and a consistent evidence period before combining delivery, quality, price, or other dimensions.

Check the interpretation

A weighted total can conceal a serious failure in one critical dimension. Review the individual scores and any qualification gates before making a supplier decision. Changing weights changes the ranking; it does not change the underlying performance evidence.

Define rating rubrics, evidence, review period, and weights consistently before comparison. Dollar prices, late counts, and defect PPM must be converted to higher-is-better ratings first. This does not recommend or approve a supplier.

Good to know

Must the weights total 100?

No. The tool divides by the sum of positive weights. Weights of 4, 3, 2, and 1 produce the same score as 40, 30, 20, and 10. All-zero weights are invalid.

Can I enter a unit price as the cost score?

No. Enter a normalized cost-competitiveness rating where higher is better. Use a documented rubric and the same price and service basis for each supplier.
