Warehouse capacity calculator

Calculate pallet-position occupancy, free positions, and headroom against your own warehouse operating target.

How it works

Adjust the example values to match your scenario.

Comparable pallet positions only. Your target is a planning assumption, not an engineering or safety approval.

BEHIND THE NUMBER

How the calculation works

Exclude positions that cannot currently accept stock, such as blocked, damaged, or reserved-out locations. Occupied positions must be counted within the remaining usable locations. The target is your own planning ceiling, not a recommended safety limit. Target headroom is the number of whole positions available before that ceiling; physical free positions can be higher.

Usable = total - unavailable; occupancy = occupied / usable × 100; target positions = floor(usable × target / 100)

When this calculation helps

Count usable positions rather than assuming every nominal rack location can accept stock. Blocked, damaged, or otherwise unavailable positions reduce the denominator before occupancy is calculated.

Check the interpretation

Physical free positions and headroom to your chosen operating target are different quantities. Neither accounts for rack strength, fire protection, product compatibility, or congestion. An editable occupancy target is a planning assumption, not an engineering or legal capacity limit.

This counts pallet positions, not building volume or legal storage capacity. It assumes one comparable pallet per position and does not test SKU compatibility, picking congestion, rack load ratings, fire protection, or safe access.

Good to know

Is 85% a required warehouse standard?

No. It is only an editable example. Choose a target appropriate to your operation and keep regulatory and engineering capacity checks separate.

What if I am above my target?

The tool shows how many occupied positions exceed your selected planning ceiling. It does not recommend moving stock into incompatible or unsafe locations.
