Start dates are included. End-date inclusion is explicit for each active period. Including the shared gate-out date in both separate periods counts it twice. Confirm the actual contract; no holidays, exceptions, taxes, or live rates are applied.

BEHIND THE NUMBER

How the calculation works

Separate mode uses discharge-to-gate-out for demurrage and gate-out-to-empty-return for detention. Combined mode uses discharge-to-return once, with its own free time and tariff. Each active period starts on its entered start date; choose whether the end date also counts. The first rate applies only to the entered first-tier duration after free time; the later rate applies to every remaining paid day. All amounts use one currency.

Paid days = max(counted calendar days - free days, 0); tier amounts are days x rate rounded to cents; total = summed stage costs x container count

When this calculation helps

Model the specific terminal and equipment charge periods using the free-time and tier assumptions applicable to that agreement. Separate scenarios are useful when terminal storage and equipment use follow different clocks.

Check the interpretation

Weekend treatment, holidays, start and end events, rounding, combined free time, and tariff versions can alter the charge. Enter confirmed terms rather than assuming a universal rule. This estimate does not determine contractual liability or submit a carrier adjustment.

Entered assumptions only, not a carrier invoice or legal interpretation. Confirm the true contractual clock-start event, free-time basis, included dates, separate/combined treatment, rate tiers, holidays, exceptions, taxes, equipment, and location. This model supports calendar days and two paid-rate tiers, not business-day or holiday calendars. Inclusive separate periods can count gate-out in both stages.

Good to know

Do these rates come from the carrier?

No. Every rate and free-time assumption is entered by you. This is not a live tariff lookup.

Can I use a flat daily rate?

Yes. Enter the same amount for the first and later paid-day rates. For more than two distinct rate tiers, use the contract calculation separately.
