Outside carton dimensions. Packed volume excludes loading gaps.
CBM describes space, not weight. Use the packaged outside dimensions and calculate different carton sizes separately. Cubic feet equal cubic meters multiplied by 35.3146667.
CBM is useful for comparing shipment space or preparing a volume input for an LCL estimate. Add the volumes of unlike packages; an average carton dimension can hide a large crate that changes the physical plan.
Count complete packed units and check the measurement system before multiplying. Two shipments with equal cubic volume need not occupy the same usable floor positions. Check item dimensions and payload separately before treating cube as a capacity approval.

Measure the complete shipping carton, including protective packaging. For a palletized shipment, use the full outside pallet dimensions.
Volume alone does not capture door clearances, floor space, stacking, weight limits, or loading gaps. Use the pallet planner for a simple floor-space estimate.
